Rev. Joshua Muoka began to build this church in 1914 together with Mr Helesen a white missionary and Mr James Mbotela. At the onset of the 1st World War, he was recruited into Kenya African Rifles - Medical Corps and fought with the British Army in Myanmar. At the end of the war in 1918, the three of them continued to build this church and completed the construction of the British East African Church in 1920.

Reverend Joshua Muoka received his training in divinity at the Christian Missions Society (CMS) training school at Thogoto in Kikuyu and SIM School at Kijabe.

Rev. Joshua Muoka was the pastor of this church for over 30 years and retired in 1975. He served as the founder and patron of the church until he passed away in 1980. The New African Church (renamed) has grown to thirty-four branches and continues to grow.

This church was rededicated as an Anglican Church of Kenya Heritage Site in commemoration of 100 years since the mission work was begun in its doors.
